This is an individual driving course for people aged 70+.
Over the years, there have been changes in road traffic law, road layouts, traffic signs and vehicle design. The natural aging process can affect individuals in different ways, including eye sight, mobility and reflexes.
A Driving with Confidence course provides an opportunity for drivers to update their knowledge, improve their hazard awareness and their driving skills.
It could be all it takes to give reassurance, increase confidence and ultimately help to keep people driving with confidence.
This course is aimed at drivers 70 years and over. Applicants must hold a valid driving licence.
People register for the driving course for a variety of reasons. Some drivers wish to update their driving knowledge or skills, to receive honest feedback on their driving, support in adapting to a new vehicle or to gain more confidence on a specific manoeuvre or route.
Each driver will receive one hour with a Driving Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Approved Driving instructor. The course is tailored to the drivers’ personal requirements. It is not a driving test, so there is no pass or fail. The driving coach will make recommendations to help ensure continual safety.
The driving instructor may identify elements for improvement and they will try to support you to implement these improvements.
Once a driver registers, they will be allocated a driving instructor by the administration team. Once a driver is allocated to a driving instructor, the instructor will make contact to arrange a mutually convenient date and time for the course to take place.
They will also ask you for the registration number of the vehicle that you wish to use for our course. This will enable them to check that the MOT is valid and the vehicle is taxed..
Most drivers prefer to use their own vehicle and experience shows it is better for the driver to complete the course in a vehicle they are familiar with. A vehicle can be provided in certain circumstances.
On the day of the course, we will ask you to read a number plate, bring along your driving licence and sign a declaration that there is no legal or medical reason that you may not drive. Without your licence, we will be unable to allow you to complete the course.
Don’t forget to bring your glasses if you need them to drive.
We would need to be informed of any special requirements that need to be taken into consideration to ensure drivers can participate fully in the course. Every effort will be made to accommodate requests.
The course lasts for one hour
